NZ Tech Expo

Today I went to NZ Tech Expo.

I think this was probably my first time attending an event of this kind, so I wasn't really sure what to expect.

The part I enjoyed the most was the EdTech startups. I spent quite a bit of time talking to people from different projects. It was interesting to discuss not only the technical side of things, but also how they approached the business side, what problems they were trying to solve, and why they made certain decisions.

I also found two projects that are somewhat similar to what I'm doing with SoloLearner:

1. Nexties — a platform for learning practical skills through scenarios and simulations.

2. ARQ Waypoint — a service that helps people find possible career paths based on their personality and interests.

I got a couple of new ideas for SoloLearner from these conversations, so I'll probably try to add some of them to the project. It's a bit of a shame that there were only a few EdTech startups there — I would have liked to see more.

One of the projects that stuck in my mind was a service that can estimate the weight of cows from photos. Their booth really stood out among the others, and the whole thing looked pretty funny at first.

Overall, it was a pretty interesting event. I also didn't expect to see so many people I already knew there, which was a nice surprise.

Hopefully there will be more events like this in Auckland later this year.
